Fred Cuming studied at the Sidcup School of Art, did his National Service and went on to the Royal Collage. He was elected a Royal Academician in 1974 and has exhibited widely,in Britain, America, South Africa and Ireland. Most of his life he has been painting in Kent and now moved to Sussex. He is one of Britain's most distinguished landscape painters. In the hurly-burly of the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition his pictures stand out, oases of calm and certainty where colours melt and drift together in a celebration of light. He says of his work, "I am working harder than ever before in my life. The things I did not understand as a young person now seem attainable, but arriving at a point of developement, there is the realisation that there is far more to be done." |
